ATC Challenge : Dec 2009
Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 |I thought it would be fun to try a new challenge this month. So this month, I’m hosting a DIGITAL ATC Challenge. If it goes over well, we’ll make it a regular challenge for 2010!
So for those of you that aren’t familiar with ATC’s. ATC’s are “artist trading cards”. Basically they are baseball card sized little creations of art, that the creators swap with each other. I, myself, use those old duplicate Pokémon cards that my son has been collecting for now on 10 years. He has tons of duplicate cards, so I have tons of cards to work with! YAY!
We’re going to do this but with a digital spin!
The Challenge
- create a 2.5 x 3.5 – 300ppi digital artist trading card that features this month’s theme.
- upload a low-res version of your ATC to the DSO GALLERY
- OPTIONAL: zip and upload a full sized version of your card somewhere and EMAIL ME the link if you would like to swap printables. At the end of the month, you will get a link to download all the other FULL RES cards for your collection!
- leave a comment on THIS POST before December 31st, 2009 including a LINK to your gallery posting, and mention whether you are emailing a full sized version or not. Make SURE you are putting in the CORRECT email address on your comment, or I will not be able to send you the posting bonus!
Dec 2009 Theme: Fiction + Diction.
Fantasy layouts seem to be all the rage if you take a quick peek in the gallery. So I thought, why not take the current trend and add that to one of my favorite things. I love to see definitions on layouts. LOVE IT! So, your atc this month should be fantasy themed and contain a definition on it somewhere. Sound simple? So the rules to remember: Must be fantasy style, contain a definition, and be 2.5 x 3.5 (or vice versa). Bonus points for those that do both a front AND a back!
The Posting Bonus
For those that play along this month, they will receive this lovely posting bonus. It contains 6 grungy/dingy papers, a brush, and a transparent png of the brush (for those that don’t use Photoshop.
)

*Remember if you upload a full sized version, you will also get a zip of everyone else that shares cards!
RAK Pack Bonus
As a extra EXTRA bonus, and because this is really a “paper” project, and I KNOW I’m going to be printing out mine! One RANDOM participant will be chosen to win this little RAK pack.

The Example
Now what kind of challenge host would I be to start something NEW and not give you an example. A bad one! And we all know how GOOD I am! {hee-hee}…
So here is my submission for this month. Front and back.
DIGITAL:
Credits: The wings are from KimB, the butterfly and clock are free stock images, and the model is my “Bug”. The definition was scanned from a Webster’s New World Dictionary.
I love getting inky, so I went ahead and printed and assembled mine. This step is NOT required to enter the challenge.
PRINTED:

Printed on white cardstock. Adhered to an old beat up Pokemon card. Butterflies glittered up with Purple, Clear, and Black Spica pens. adhesives used were: Tombow Aqua glue, and 3m Dimensionals. Edges distressed with sanding block and inked with Vintage Photo by Distress ink.
Cant wait to see what you create!
GOOD LUCK!
